Happy New Year!

I know that I’m a few days late, but not too many.

Our New Year’s Eve didn’t involve watching Dick Clark, or the ball dropping in Times Square (because we don’t have cable or an antenna).  Our evening was full of treats and movies.  Our kids are teenagers and have proven during the year that they are able to stay awake until midnight, even better than their parents.   We had Swiss cheese fondue, a veggie tray, French bread pizza, cheese & crackers, and per the kids’ request, Oreos and Nutter Butters.  We enjoyed our little feast while watching our movies and waiting for midnight to arrive.

We did take a little break from our movies to give our son his first shaving lesson.   For nearly 2 years, he’s had a dark shadow of peach fuzz under his nose.  For the past few months, he’s expressed interest in shaving it off.  We really wanted to start him off with an electric shaver as we felt that he could handle it best and also, he may not remember how to safely use a razor.   Well he was anxious to be “clean shaven” by the new year.  So, between movies, we headed up to the bathroom, and Kevin showed him how to put on shaving gel, and then proceeded to make the boy, “clean shaven”.This was a proud moment for my husband as well, ushering the boy into another phase of adulthood.    The boy was just happy that we finally got around to shaving that upper lip!

New Years Day woke up before we did.  We slept in, and it was nice.  I haven’t slept in that late in a very long time (and by late, I mean 9:30ish).   For our “brunch”, I made the Pioneer Woman’s Skillet coffee cake!  Let me say YUMMMMM!!!  Of course all of her recipes are delicious!  Very buttery, and if you’re on Weight Watchers, you’ll blow your daily points on one piece!

You can also see that I did sample a little off of the right there.  Chef’s privilege!  So I’ve been told 🙂

Happy New Year!  We’re looking forward to and hoping for a great year ahead!
